I decided to become a freelance attorney for two main reasons. First and foremost, I love to write. Prior to starting my own freelance practice, I clerked for a federal judge in San Diego for three years. There, the vast majority of my time was spent researching and writing draft opinions. I loved it. I enjoy engaging in thoughtful legal analysis, evaluating evidence, and thinking of creative arguments. As a freelance attorney, I am able to spend my time focusing on the aspect of legal practice that I enjoy the most, which is writing.
Second, I wanted a career that would allow for maximum flexibility. My husband is a Naval Aviator, so our lives involve lots of travel and frequent moves. I wanted to create a practice that would allow me to work wherever I found myself at the moment – whether it be a Marine base in 29 Palms, California, a Marriott in Bangkok, or motel in Gulfport, Mississippi (all of which, have happened).
